Our community often suffers the devastating effects of crime. In spite of our continuing effort to eliminate crime in our community, this effort will never be completely successful. As a result, innocent people will continue to be preyed upon by those who have no respect for law, life or property. Physical injury, emotional and mental trauma and financial burdens may be suffered by the victims of crimes. The added worry over medical bills and loss work time add insult to injury.
Policing is an important feature of community life. Maldives Police Service strives to provide an excellent service to the community that it serves and we consistently endeavour to improve that service. We are committed to delivering a very visible police presence on our streets to reassure and maintain close contact with the people who live and work . A number of recent legislative and internal organizational changes have been made to deliver improved service. Change is an ever-present aspect of modern life. Maldives police service promises to embrace any opportunity to diminish the fear of crime and will tackle issues that undermine confidence and affect quality of life.
The purpose of Maldives Police Service is to prevent crime, establish peace, protect and reassure the community that we will uphold the law firmly, fairly and pursue identifying those who break the law. We seek to act with courtesy, compassion, tolerance and restraint whilst upholding and protecting the fundamental rights of everyone we deal with. We remain at all times accountable for our actions and seek to act lawfully with necessity and proportionality, applying fairness, integrity and impartiality to everything we do.
