News update on the stolen items and weapons found in G. Masodige


The Police have held a news conference this afternoon at the Police HQ to update the media on the case of the stolen items and weapons found in G. Masodige. In this conference, Head of Serious and Organized Crime Department, Superintendent of Police, Ahmed Saudhee informed that the Police received information about a group of people planning for a violent assault for the 5th of January including information on illegal drugs in their possession. In a special operation undertaken, in a closed room in the yard of G. Masodige, the Police found steel rods, timber blocks, stolen items and weapons prepared for an assault and battery. No illegal drugs were found in this room.

Superintendent Saudhee further informed that the 6 people who were arrested in connection to this case already held criminal records for various crimes. Amongst them, Ibrahim Shareef (25), G. Femitone is a person who has already been sentences to 6 years imprisonment for illegal drug use. Another, Ihsaanuddin Rasheed (26), of G. Masodige was in jail for a case involving a death of a person, and is currently released to house arrest. All the 6 people have denied all allegations made against them and due to insufficient evidence to hold them, 5 of them, except Shareef has been released on order of the Court. Superintendent Saudhee noted that in cases such as these, people from G. Masodige are quite often prevalent as suspects or linked to such acts of violence.

On this note, Superintendent Saudhee called on all citizens to be on alert about such crimes and to prevent them by cooperation and supporting the Police in their attempts to arrest and seek justice.
