Minister of Home Affairs returns after an official visit to India
The Minister of Home Affairs, Honourable Mohamed Shihab has returned to Male after an official visit to India on invitation from the Indian Home Minister. This Official trip from the 1st to the 8th of February was organized to discuss the assistance the Indian Government can provide to develop different areas of the Maldivian Home Ministry. In the visit, the Minister was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Faseeh and the Deputy Head of Strategic Development Department of Maldives Police Services, Yoonus Sobah.
In this official visit, discussions were held about the assistance the Indian Government could provide the Maldivian Home Ministry. The Indian Home Minister guaranteed their support and assistance in the construction of the new jail, designing of the new jail and managing it as well. Further, he also assured that within this year, with the assistance of the Indian Government, it is hoped that a Police Academy will be constructed in the Maldives to train Maldivian Police, and more prompt assistance will be provided to the work of building a modern and an advanced forensic laboratory. The Indian Government will also provide the Maldives Police Services with the training courses they desire and would also help the Maldives Police Services to update and advance in their method and materials.
Honourable Minister also met the Director of the Indian Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In this meeting, discussions were held about the changes in the criminal activities in the Maldives. The CBI director gave surety that he will provide technical assistance to establish sections to investigate crimes such as: corporate, white collar and cyber crimes.
The last stop the Honourable Minister made in this official visit was to the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysore. There, he met with 6 Maldivian Police officers in training. Minister Shihab thanked the Academy for their effort and opportunities provided to train Maldivian Police in their renowned Academy and requested for further such opportunities for the Maldivian Police.
