08 Jan

A workshop aimed at gathering information to design specialized training for neighborhood policing has concluded successfully. Held from January 7th to 8th, this initiative forms part of the "Neighborhood Police Stream," a component of the Maldives Security and Justice Project funded by the United Kingdom's International Development Fund.

The workshop, titled “Developing and Delivering Neighborhood Policing in the Maldives,” brought together participants from across the Maldives. Attendees included representatives from Male’ and Hulhumale’ Police, regional police, other frontline departments, the Directorate of Intelligence, and the Public Trust and Confidence Wing.

Discussions focused on key recommendations from the 2024 research report conducted under the Maldives Security and Justice Project, the strategic vision for the Neighborhood Policing Service (2024-2028), and methods to enhance neighborhood policing operations. Participants also reviewed current training practices, explored strategies for structuring the service in alignment with local areas and populations, and shared ideas for advancing neighborhood policing in the Maldives.

The two-day workshop featured participation from 61 police officers, ranging from constable to inspector ranks, with an additional 38 staff members from Male’ and regional police joining online.
