Japan Donates Vehicles to Maldives Police Service

In a formal ceremony today, the Government of Japan handed over a fleet of vehicles to the Maldives Police Service (MPS). The handover was officiated by H.E. Takeuchi Midori, the Japanese High Commissioner to the Maldives, and received by Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau on behalf of MPS.

 

The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, and other senior officers from MPS.

 

In his address, Commissioner Ali Shujau highlighted the increasing crime rates and the urgent need to enhance efforts to ensure public safety and security. He stressed the importance of improving police facilities to maintain order and expressed profound gratitude to the Government of Japan for its continuous support, which significantly boosts MPS's operational capacity.

 

 

Speaking on behalf of Japan, Ambassador Takeuchi Midori affirmed Japan's commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies. She expressed hope that the newly donated vehicles would enhance MPS operations and hinted at future donations, including metal detectors, lasers, passenger craft, and speed boats.

 

In a gesture of appreciation, a plaque was presented to Ambassador Takeuchi Midori, acknowledging Japan's substantial contributions to MPS's development.

 

 

Today's donation includes 54 cars and four vans, adding to Japan's previous donations of road and marine vehicles, drug field test kits, precursor field test kits, and Raman handheld field identification kits. This ongoing support highlights the strong bilateral ties between Japan and the Maldives, aiming to enhance the efficiency and capabilities of the Maldives Police Service.
