
Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen began his career in national service as a Constable in 1994 with the National Security Service. With the establishment of the Maldives Police Service as a separate institution in 2004, he continued to serve with distinction. Over the course of more than 30 years, he has held a wide range of leadership roles across operational, investigative, forensic, and administrative divisions. He was appointed as the Commissioner of Police by the President of Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, in 2025.
Commissioner Naveen has led several strategic departments, including the Corporate Services Directorate, People Directorate, Central and Local Policing Commands, and Forensic Services. Prior to his appointment as Commissioner, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in 2024.
He has represented the Maldives in numerous national and international forums and has been a member of several high-level committees and boards. These include the Aviation Security Committee under the Maldives Aviation Security Command, the Parole Board, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board of the Maldives, and the Professional Standards Committee of the Maldives Police Service.
Commissioner Naveen holds a Master of Business Administration (Leadership) from Australia and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons) from the United Kingdom. He has also completed a Higher Diploma and Diploma in Law from Malaysia.
He has participated in a number of prominent international training programs, including:

• Major Terrorism Investigation Course, 2014, Maldives.
• Various INTERPOL and U.S. Pacific Command programs.
Throughout his service, Commissioner Naveen has received multiple recognitions for his contributions. These include:
• Recognition for his role in the successful execution of major national operations and investigations.
• Honored for 25 years of sincere service to the Maldives Police Service (2020).
• Recognized as the best all-round officer in 2002 and for excellence in investigations in 1997 and 1996.
Commissioner Naveen has been awarded several honors, including the Presidential Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, Long Service Medal, Ribbon of Bravery, Police Service Medal, and the Dedicated Service Medal, among others.
