Official Ceremony Held to Commemorate Police Service Day

The Maldives Police Service held an official ceremony today to mark the 20th anniversary of its establishment as a separate institution. The event took place at the Iskandar Building and was attended by Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau. Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, police executives, officers of all ranks, and civilian staff.

 

In his speech, Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau expressed confidence that the people of Maldives recognize the hard work of the police over the past twenty years to ensure the safety and security of the nation. He stated that the sacrifices made by the police, including those who have given their lives in the line of duty, are a testament to their dedication to protecting the citizens. He specifically mentioned Shaheed Adam Haleem, Shaheed Ali Nazim, Shaheed Misbah Abdullah, and other officers who have been injured while serving, calling them the true heroes of the Maldives Police Service.

Commissioner Shujau also highlighted the risks involved in police work, citing a recent incident in Male’ where an officer was injured while attempting to rescue a victim. He acknowledged that while the police receive both praise and criticism for their work, all officers accept and learn from both.

 

During the ceremony, commemorative plaques were presented to employees who have served in the police service for over 25 years, recognizing their long-standing commitment. A video presentation was also shown, highlighting the progress and changes in the Maldives Police Service since it became a civilian institution.

The Maldives Police Service was originally part of the National Security Service, providing police services since March 29, 1933. On September 1, 2004, it was officially established as a separate civilian institution. Over the past 20 years, the Maldives Police Service has undergone significant changes and continues to adapt to modern needs.
