Police conduct awareness session for the parents of Maalhos School

02 Jun

On May 29, Police conducted awareness sessions for both parents and students of B. Maalhos School to promote a better understanding of parenting, child behaviour, and how to prevent bullying. The sessions were organised by the Maalhos Police, B. Atoll Family and Children Service Centre, Maalhos School, and the Maalhos Council Office.

The session for parents focused on practical ways to support children, especially during their teenage years. Parents were encouraged to respect their children's differences, lead by example, and create a supportive home environment. The discussion also included how to prevent negative behaviour and communicate more openly with children. Bullying was a key topic, parents were advised to talk to their children about what bullying is and how to respond if they see it happening.

Meanwhile, 66 students from grades 4 to 10 took part in a separate session where they learned how to recognise bullying, protect themselves, and support classmates who might be affected. They were reminded that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. The session also stressed that staying silent can sometimes allow bullying to continue, and students were encouraged to speak up and support each other.

Twenty-two parents attended the parent session. Organisers noted that these sessions are just one part of their ongoing effort to create a safer and more supportive school environment by involving both families and students in open, honest conversations.
